The first step - Choosing the right wood

Every unique piece of handmade furniture begins its life with the selection of the wood. This is a crucial step that lays the foundation for the entire process. Only high-quality, solid hardwoods are considered - species like oak, ash, or walnut, known for their beauty and strength. Each board is inspected individually. We look closely for any signs of cracks, excessive knots, or warping. The grain pattern is observed, the tone of the wood is noted, and we test the strength. We only select pieces that meet our high standards. This is more than just a material choice. This is where the shelf’s story begins - with nature, quality, and intention.

Cutting and preparing

With the wood chosen, it is time to begin shaping its future. First, every board is carefully measured based on the design. Accuracy is essential at this stage, so we take our time and double-check each measurement. Each cut is made with attention and purpose. Whether it’s a straight cut for a clean, modern shelf or a more intricate shape for something rustic, the wood is always handled with care. For floating shelves, the hidden bracket system requires thoughtful planning. We carve precise recesses and drill mounting holes so the shelf will sit flush against your wall. Nothing is rushed. Everything is done by skilled hands.

Shaping and assembling

After the pieces are prepared, we begin to shape them. Sharp edges are softened. Corners may be rounded to give the shelf a more refined look and feel. Some pieces retain their natural "live edge" - the organic line of the tree's outer shape. This keeps a part of the forest visible in the final product. These natural curves make every piece one-of-a-kind. We join the parts together using traditional woodworking techniques. The goal is to create something sturdy, balanced, and beautiful. Every shelf has its own character, shaped not just by tools, but by time and attention.

Sanding for smoothness

This stage brings out the touchable quality of the wood. Sanding is where raw timber becomes soft and smooth to the hand. We begin with coarser sandpaper to remove any roughness. Then we gradually move to finer grits until the surface feels like silk. We use both tools and bare hands for this step, following the grain closely. No shortcuts are taken here. You will feel the difference every time you run your fingers along the surface. Sanding is slow work, but it’s what makes the shelf truly ready for finishing.

Finishing touches

Now the wood is ready for its finish. We use natural oils and protective coatings that not only shield the shelf from wear and moisture but also reveal the beauty within the grain. Each wood species responds differently to the finish. Oak may take on a warm, golden tone. Walnut becomes deep and rich. The finish is chosen to enhance, not to hide. We apply the oils by hand in several layers, allowing time for each coat to penetrate and dry properly. The result is a surface that glows,  alive with color, depth and texture.

Packing with care

Once the shelf is complete, it’s time to prepare it for its journey to your home. Every piece is handled with the same level of care in packing as it was during making. We wrap each shelf in protective paper and secure it with strong cardboard. Corners are cushioned, edges protected. Our goal is to ensure it arrives exactly as it left our workshop, flawless and ready to install. Inside the package, you’ll find the shelf, the mounting brackets, and clear instructions written for ease and clarity. Opening the box should feel like receiving something made just for you, because it was.

The final destination - Your home

The last step of the journey is the most meaningful. Now the shelf is in your hands. You choose where it goes, what it holds, and how it fits into your life. It might display your favorite books, hold a plant, or support a collection of treasured objects. Wherever it hangs, it carries with it the story of craft, patience, and care. From the forest to our workshop, from our hands  to your wall - this is more than furniture.
